Fujifilm X-T30 III announcement: three FS positions are not the whole settings menu

The FUJIFILM X-T30 III announcement makes a physical control part of the product story. For a buyer who wants predictable access to a preferred look, the useful question is how that control relates to saved settings. Counting three custom positions does not describe the entire menu, and counting available film simulations does not describe how many positions are immediately visible on the dial.

The October launch and the model manual

Fujifilm’s 23 October 2025 global announcement named three FS positions for custom recipes and described 20 film-simulation modes. The X-T30 III manual distinguishes FS1–FS3 from the C position; it also says menu, quick-menu and assigned-button film-simulation settings are valid when the dial is at C. The manual provides separate still and movie settings for the FS positions. This report compares those documents, not photographs from a tested camera.

Why a household handover can reveal the difference

A hypothetical owner might leave a camera ready for a relative to photograph a weekend gathering. “Use my saved look” is ambiguous unless the owner identifies which physical position and which shooting context they mean. A second person changing a menu selection may expect it to take effect while a different dial position is active. A clear handover should name the intended control state rather than assume a familiar menu label overrides everything.

This is not an argument that a physical dial is universally better than a menu. Someone who values quick visual selection may appreciate it; somebody who regularly switches many configurations may judge the same arrangement differently. Those preferences should be described as workflow choices. Neither proves a difference in artistic ability or the quality of the underlying image.

A purchase conversation with fewer ambiguous numbers

Ask a demonstrator to distinguish available looks, directly marked dial positions and saved recipe locations. Then ask how the chosen look is recalled in the specific still-photo or movie workflow that matters to you. These questions are more useful than requesting the “number of presets,” which can accidentally combine several different kinds of settings into one impressive total.

If buying a used body, do not assume the seller’s custom settings will match your preferences or survive every change you intend to make. A personal configuration is part of the handover discussion, not a permanent property guaranteed by the camera’s name. Record the desired result in words so it can be rebuilt or checked against the official model manual without treating an unfamiliar recipe as a tested editorial recommendation.

A dated announcement, not a current delivery promise

The launch release described a November 2025 global rollout. It does not establish a current local bundle, stock position or delivery date. We also do not claim that any named film simulation reproduces a particular film stock exactly, or that a recipe suits every scene. The consumer significance is control literacy: the X-T30 III offers both physical and menu routes, and the mode and dial state need to be identified before a saved-setting promise becomes a usable everyday workflow.
